Celtics’ Guard Makes Bold MVP Case for Jaylen Brown

The Boston Celtics secured a second straight win over the Indiana Pacers on Friday. Joe Mazzulla’s team won 140-122, behind some stellar offensive play. Five members of Boston’s rotation finished with double-digit scoring.

Jaylen Brown, who has been exceptional throughout the first two months of the season, ended the game with 30 points, extending his hot scoring streak. He’s now gone eight consecutive games scoring 30 or more.

When speaking to the media after the game, Celtics guard Payton Pritchard offered some high praise for his All-Star teammate.

“He’s a top player in the NBA,” Pritchard said. “He should be in the MVP conversation for sure, he shows it every night.”

Brown is currently ranked seventh on the NBA’s MVP ladder. He’s behind Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham and Victor Wembanyama.

Nevertheless, Brown’s position within the top 10 of the MVP race is proof that he’s having the best season of his career thus far. Over 28 games, he’s averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists, shooting 50.2% from the field and 36.9% from three-point range. He’s also getting to the line at a career-high rate, with 7.4 attempts per game while shooting 78.3%.

Brown has embraced his spot as the Celtics’ lead offensive weapon this season. He’s thriving under the pressure and could end the season as part of an All-NBA team selection. However, he faces an uphill battle to find himself challenging for the MVP award, much to Pritchard’s potential dismay.
