Drake Maye Issues Challenge To TreVeyon Henderson After Latest Award
A lot has gone right for the New England Patriots in the 2025 campaign. The play of Drake Maye under center is certainly high up on that list, but over the past few weeks, it’s been hard to ignore the play of rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson.
With Rhamondre Stevenson missing time due to a toe injury, that forced Henderson to take on more responsibility in the month of November. In the team’s four games during the month, Henderson racked up 330 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, while also catching 13 passes for 81 yards and another score.
Henderson followed that up by earning the NFL’s Rookie of the Week honors in Week 13 after he picked up 86 total yards in the team’s win over the New York Giants. As a result, Henderson earned himself a wrestling-themed title bet, and when he was showing it off to Maye, the second-year quarterback offered a quick challenge to one of his top playmakers.
“Rookie of the Year. How about that? That’s what it should be,” Maye said to Henderson after seeing the talented running back’s new belt.
After a slow start to the season, Henderson has come on strong as of late. He has 625 yards and five touchdowns to his name on the ground, while also catching 32 passes for 199 yards and another touchdown. As a result, he’s turned himself into one of the top Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates.
Henderson may not be the frontrunner to win the award just yet, but if he can keep on producing at a high level for New England over its final four games, he could make the award his. Henderson will look to help the Patriots earn their 11th-straight win when they take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 15.
