Courtside Photo Of Celtics Owner Bill Chisholm Goes Viral
The Boston Celtics pulled off an impressive win over the 15-3 Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night at TD Garden, and Celtics owner Bill Chisholm was more than just a passive observer in the crowd.
Chisholm was absolutely explosive in his passionate reactions to Boston’s winning plays down the stretch, and a photo that captured Chisholm during one of these moments has since gone viral, with Celtics fans loving every element of the pic.
In the photo, Chisholm can be seen court-side sharing an amazing moment with Celtics wing Jordan Walsh.
You simply have to love the energy here from Chisholm, who is a lifelong Celtics fan, by the way. Raised in the quiet town of Georgetown, Massachusetts, Chisholm spent boyhood nights glued to broadcasts of Larry Bird and the ’80s Celtics dynasty, never imagining he’d one day hold the reins of his beloved team.
After earning a degree from Babson College, Chisholm dove into finance, co-founding Symphony Technology Group in 2006. The Menlo Park-based firm specialized in tech investments, amassing billions under his watch as managing partner and chief investment officer. By 2024, his portfolio boasted stakes in software giants, providing the firepower for bolder pursuits.
The Celtics opportunity arose abruptly after the team’s 18th championship in June 2024, when controlling owner Wyc Grousbeck announced a sale. Chisholm entered the fray in January 2025, amid a fierce blind auction with suitors like Stephen Pagliuca and the Friedkin Group. On March 14, his consortium bid $6.1 billion for the initial stake (edging rivals by under $100 million) and secured NBA approval by August, finalizing the handover on the 19th. Backed by investors like Sixth Street and Rob Hale, Chisholm has retained Grousbeck as a minority partner.
Chisholm has vowed to chase banners relentlessly, and his court-side demeanor has already gained the respect of Celtics fans.
