Furious Tottenham receive apology after cup draw debacle

0 38

Concerns have been raised about the professionalism of the Women’s League Cup quarter-final and semi-final draw after an influencer made an inappropriate joke about Tottenham.

The draw for the Women’s League Cup was made at Oxford United and took place live on WSL Football’s TikTok.

It was hosted by influencer GK Barry and her partner, Portsmouth midfielder Ella Rutherford, but some serious question marks have been raised about its legitimacy.

This update comes from BBC Sport, who say that one of the clubs involved in the draw has asked WSL Football to provide footage as the draw is currently unavailable to watch on social media or WSL Football’s YouTube channel.

Tottenham receive apology after presenter makes lewd joke

The report reveals that during the draw, GK Barry made a series of lewd jokes, including one about Spurs.

When pulling out the ball with Tottenham’s number on it, she reportedly asked: “What do we think of Tottenham?”, which is a reference to a chant often used by Arsenal fans to denigrate their North London rivals.

It is revealed that WSL football has apologised to Spurs for the presenter’s comments, and the Lilywhites are said to be considering their response to the incident.

Concerns raised over legitimacy of the Women’s League Cup draw

BBC Sport reveal that there was another major controversy during the draw, which has raised questions about its integrity and legitimacy.

GK Barry reportedly pulled out a ball from the bag, dropped it back in by accident and took it out again while the draw was being made.

While this raised some concerns from the clubs involved in the draw, WSL football insists that the ball Barry pulled out at the second attempt was the same one she had dropped.

Here is how the Women’s League Cup quarterfinal and semifinal looks like:

Quarter-finals

Liverpool v Chelsea

Crystal Palace v Arsenal

Manchester United v Tottenham

West Ham v Manchester City

Semi-finals

Crystal Palace/Arsenal v Manchester United/Tottenham

West Ham/Manchester City v Liverpool/Chelsea
