Man United 'could recall' 18yo star from loan in January, Championship club 'want to keep him'
Manchester United youngster Harry Amass is enjoying a sensational loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.
Although he is on a season-long loan, the deal includes a standard January break clause that gives United the option to bring him back early.
The Athletic report that Wednesday want to keep him for the whole of the campaign and have communicated it to United.
At this stage, it appears more likely that Amass remains in the Championship but United have not completely ruled out that he could be recalled.
The 18-year-old has started all 12 games this campaign and scored a sensational solo goal against Southampton.
United should not recall Harry Amass
Sheffield Wednesday have been engulfed in multiple off-field controversies this season.
Their chaos has been so severe that they currently sit rock-bottom of the Championship on -4 points.
Despite all the issues, Amass has shown remarkable focus and maturity to consistently deliver standout performances.
All of his 11 starts have come in the left wing-back spot, a role he is expected to perform under United head coach Ruben Amorim.
Amass currently averages 2.7 tackles per game, the highest in the squad.
At his age, nothing is more valuable than regular football, and that is something Wednesday are giving him in abundance.
He is a genuinely special talent, and sitting on the bench at Old Trafford would do little to accelerate his development.
The teenager has already made his United debut under Amorim, showing real sharpness despite being physically short of Premier League level.
Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot are sharing the minutes at left wing-back.
With no European football and an early Carabao Cup exit, United have far fewer fixtures than usual.
Recalling Amass mid-season, without a full-blown injury crisis, would be a decision that makes little sense.
A full campaign in the Championship, followed by a proper pre-season under Amorim next summer, is the ideal pathway for his breakthrough.
