Former Patriots Wide Receiver Finds New Home After Recent Release

The New England Patriots have been tinkering with their roster ahead of their upcoming Week 12 action against the Cincinnati Bengals. Last week, the team’s need for more help at running back led to them releasing wide receiver Brenden Rice from their practice squad, and it appears he’s found a new home with another top contender.

Rice, who is the son of legendary NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice, has bounced around the league a bit early in his career. The former USC Trojans star was initially taken by the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but after getting cut earlier this season, he found his way to the Patriots’ practice squad.

With New England needing help elsewhere on its roster, it opted to release Rice shortly after signing him. It didn’t take him long to find a new home, though, as the Seattle Seahawks signed him to their practice squad on Tuesday.

“The Seahawks made some changes to their practice squad on Tuesday, signing running back Velus Jones Jr. and receiver Brenden Rice,” the team announced on its official website.

While Rice’s ties to his father are obviously enticing, he also enjoyed a productive career in college. In his final season with USC, Rice caught 45 passes for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns, showing that he has the potential to make a name for himself in the pros.

Things didn’t work out for Rice in New England, but he will be joining another high-powered offense with the Seahawks. As for the Pats, they are preparing for their Week 12 action, where they will aim to earn their ninth-straight victory.
