Alex Cora Reveals Top Wish For Red Sox’s Offseason
After several years of not having quite enough talent and depth to make the playoffs, the Boston Red Sox front office made Alex Cora’s job significantly easier last season, giving him an ace (Garrett Crochet), an elite closer (Aroldis Chapman) and an All-Star third baseman (Alex Bregman).
Cora responded by guiding the Red Sox to their first postseason appearance in four years. It was too short in his view, however, as Boston only played three playoff games before getting eliminated by the New York Yankees in the Wild Card Round.
The Red Sox’s goal is to go deeper in the postseason next year and compete for a World Series, and Cora wants the front office to stay aggressive this winter.
“Just continue to be aggressive like we were last year,” Cora said on Wednesday’s episode of “Foul Territory.” “Just stay aggressive. Playing three games in October is not good enough for us…We have to be better.”
Cora added that he appreciates how straightforward chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has been this offseason regarding Boston’s needs, specifically adding another starting pitcher and improving the lineup.
Breslow and Cora appear to be on the same page, which is encouraging heading into such a pivotal offseason. If the Red Sox stay aggressive this winter and address their holes, there’s no reason they can’t improve and take another step forward in 2026.
