Lakers Reportedly Shopped Anthony Davis To Celtics Before Luka Doncic Trade
Nine months after the Dallas Mavericks shockingly traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package headlined by Anthony Davis, the NBA world is still dealing with the fallout.
Mavericks GM Nico Harrison was fired earlier this week after Dallas’ horrific start to the season, putting the trade back in the spotlight. On Friday, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel published a report detailing the Lakers’ side of the deal and why they were looking to move on from Davis.
In the article, Siegel reveals that Los Angeles tried to shop Davis to several teams, including the Boston Celtics, in the middle of last season before ultimately sending him to the Mavericks.
“Of the teams that the Lakers spoke with when they were first putting out feelers for Davis, the Boston Celtics held a couple of calls with Los Angeles, sources said. Nothing ever progressed to where there was any actual momentum, but Los Angeles was receiving signals that Brad Stevens and his front office were receptive to the idea,” Siegel writes.
“The five-word message the Lakers got back from Boston was enough to let them know they would consider such a move in the summer: ‘We’ll keep it in mind.’ It is worth noting that the Celtics were next to the Lakers in terms of pursuing Davis when he was traded from the Pelicans in 2019,” Siegel adds.
While Boston was reportedly interested in Davis, nothing ever came of it. Dallas blew Los Angeles away by offering Doncic, and the rest is history.
