Celtics, Baylor Scheierman News Announced

The Boston Celtics have decided to exercise the third-year option for Baylor Scheierman, Boston’s first-round pick from the 2024 NBA Draft. The news arrived on Thursday from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Scheierman joined Boston as the No. 30 overall pick in the 2024 draft, entering a championship-caliber squad stacked with talent. In his rookie season, he appeared in 31 games, averaging 12.4 minutes, 3.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 31.7 percent from deep. This year, through four games played, he’s logged 8.5 minutes per game.

Before turning pro, Scheierman built a stellar college resume across two programs. At South Dakota State from 2019-22, he evolved into a Summit League standout, earning Player of the Year honors as a junior with 16.2 points per game on 50.8 percent field goal shooting.

Transferring to Creighton, he thrived in the Big East, boosting his output to 18.5 points as a senior in 2023-24 while earning third-team All-America recognition. His sharpshooting stood out, including a streak of 48 consecutive games with a made three-pointer for the Bluejays.

For Boston, Scheierman’s 6-foot-6 frame, playmaking vision and perimeter stroke appealed to GM Brad Stevens during the draft process.

With another team option looming for 2027-28, the Celtics hold flexibility while giving the Nebraska native time to climb the depth chart.
