Patriots Make Lawrence Guy Announcement After Retirement Decision
The New England Patriots are heading into their Week 8 contest with the Cleveland Browns looking for their fifth straight win, and it looks like one of their former players, Lawrence Guy, is going to play a small yet important role for the team right before the game gets underway.
Guy spent seven years of his 13-year NFL career with the Patriots, becoming a key interior defensive lineman during his time with the team. Guy was a pillar of consistency on defense for New England after the departure of Tom Brady, and he helped the team win its most recent championship in Super Bowl LIII.
After playing four games for the Cincinnati Bengals last season, Guy opted to sign a one-day contract with the Pats on Friday before calling it a career. Guy enjoyed the best seasons of his career while in New England, and it’s clear he’s still fond of his time with the team.
As it turns out, Guy’s return to the Patriots isn’t going to be limited to just one day. That’s because it was revealed on Saturday afternoon that Guy will be the Keeper of the Light ahead of the team’s Week 8 clash with the Browns.
“Lawrence Guy is Sunday’s Keeper of the Light ????,” the team shared in a post on X.
The Keeper of the Light is a new tradition that was implemented in 2023 as part of $250 million renovations to Gillette Stadium. The person chosen is honored before being allowed to ring the fog bell that is stationed atop the massive lighthouse located behind the north endzone.
Guy will become the latest former player to be given the honor, joining a crew that features guys Tom Brady, Adam Vinatieri and James White who have previously been the Keeper of the Light. The Patriots will kick off their Week 8 action against the Browns at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
