Patriots’ Josh McDaniels Discusses TreVeyon Henderson’s Limited Production Vs. Titans
The Patriots handled their business last Sunday, defeating the Tennessee Titans 31-13. New England’s offense delivered a strong performance and racked up 387 total yards. However, rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson didn’t play a significant role in the offensive explosion.
Henderson only saw nine snaps and carried the ball twice for five yards.
It’s a bit concerning that Henderson hasn’t received more playing time, but offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels doesn’t seem too worried about Henderson’s lack of production.
“I think it was really circumstantial,” McDaniels said Thursday, via WEEI’s Tom Carroll. “I mean, Mondre (Rhamondre Stevenson) — runners are kinda … you get into a rhythm, and sometimes that happens, you know? And I know TreVeyon’s led us in carries in other games, and certainly Mondre did last week. So there’s nothing specific.”
Stevenson did have a nice outing last week, rushing 18 times for 88 yards and a touchdown, but there’s gotta be another reason why Henderson isn’t getting more attempts.
Boston Sports Journal’s Greg A. Bedard thinks the coaches don’t have trust in Henderson.
“The coaches do not have confidence in TreVeyon Henderson,” Bedard said on Sunday. “And that’s not gonna change till they see it on the practice field.”
The Patriots will face off against the Browns this Sunday. Cleveland has allowed an average of 82.4 rushing yards per game this season, which doesn’t bode well for Henderson’s chances of getting increased playing time.
