BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Division titles and home-field advantage for the playoffs are on the line in the penultimate regular season week for Section VI football. Here are some of the games WIVB News 4 will be watching.
Lancaster (5-1) at Bennett (5-1)
7 p.m. Friday at All-High Stadium
The teams that have combined to win eight of the past nine sectional championships meet in a game that could determine top seeding for Class AA playoffs. Reigning champion Lancaster, ranked No. 5 among WNY large schools, can clinch the division with a win, while No. 3 Bennett would still need to win at No. 6 Orchard Park next week.
West Seneca East (6-0) at Williamsville South (5-1)
7 p.m. Friday
The area’s top-ranked small school visits No. 3 to decide the B-1 division and home-field advantage in the playoffs. Williamsville South receiver Tommy Collins received a Connolly Cup nomination after catching two touchdown’s in last week’s win.
Olean (4-2) at Iroquois (5-1)
7 p.m. Friday
No. 4 small school Iroquois can clinch the B-2 title, while an Olean win would create a logjam atop the division standings. Iroquois receiver Nick Skutnik received a Connolly Cup nod for scoring four touchdowns with 170 yards receiving and a 71-yard punt return in last week’s win.
St. Francis (5-1) at Bishop Timon-St. Jude (2-3)
6:30 p.m. at Mulroy Park
The South Buffalo battle matches WNY’s top-ranked large school against a scrappy Timon squad trying to prove it can compete with the top contenders in the Monsignor Martin league. St. Francis receiver Mason Anderson was nominated for the Connolly Cup after catching three TD passes a week ago.
