That's on you: Man United icon sends powerful message to Marcus Rashford

0 5

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has given a fitting reply to Marcus Rashford.

Rashford recently claimed that an uncertain environment was to blame for his struggles at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old completed a loan move to Barcelona this summer, with the Catalan giants holding an option to sign him permanently for under £30 million.

The former United skipper responded on the latest episode of The Wayne Rooney Show: “I think the environment hasn’t been right but that is down to yourself.

“If you are not playing well or you get left out of the team then I think it is easier to blame the environment and whether that is right or wrong. I think that comes from how you apply yourself.

“In games we have seen with him where we know he can do more, we know he can run more – that is nothing to do with an environment.

“I might be wrong here, I really like Marcus as a lad and as a person but I think that is an easy one to throw at people.”

Rashford must take charge of his career

The England international has had a superb start to life in Barcelona, netting three goals and recording five assists in ten games across all competitions.

Rashford has had a more than decent career at United, with 138 goals and 78 assists to his name in over 400 games.

Very few players reach such numbers at a club as massive as Man United without being an extraordinary talent.

Yet, even his biggest supporters admit that Rashford never truly fulfilled his world-class potential.

He was a generational talent who should be among the best players in Europe by now.

However, off-field distractions, inconsistent form, and lapses in mentality have often overshadowed his natural brilliance.

The uncertainty surrounding managers at Old Trafford was a result of the team’s poor performances.

If United were performing consistently, Louis van Gaal might still have been at the Theatre of Dreams.

Rashford was quick to blame the club, but he must acknowledge that he failed to step up as a leader.

Leaders rise above chaos, and Rashford did not quite manage that.

When United handed him the iconic number ten shirt after Rooney’s departure, it was a massive show of faith.

Rashford did well, but never truly met his potential.
