Plans for new Roma stadium will be delivered ‘by the end of the year’

The city council in Rome has confirmed that plans for a new Roma stadium will be delivered ‘by the end of the year’ in order to meet UEFA deadlines for prospective host venues ahead of EURO 2032, which will be co-hosted by Italy and Turkey.

The Rome city council, along with representatives from AS Roma, met on Wednesday to discuss plans for a new stadium in the Pietralata area of the city.

According to a statement published on Wednesday, the meeting, which lasted for around an hour and a half, was largely positive, and the club and city are aligned with their plans to erect a new stadium capable of hosting matches for EURO 2032.

They hope to deliver their final plans for the stadium by the end of the calendar year in order to meet future deadlines set by UEFA with regard to hosting matches at EURO 2032.

“A meeting was held today at the Campidoglio with regard to the construction of the new Roma stadium in the Pietralata area, coordinated by Albino Ruberti with councillors from the urban planning, mobility, public works and heritage departments of Roma Capitale, along with representatives from the Giallorossi,” the statement from the city council read.

“This meeting, which lasted for an hour and a half, was held in a positive atmosphere, and confirmed the shared goal of delivering the final project for the stadium by the end of the year.

“The administrative processes that will follow will make it possible to meet the UEFA deadlines, which are set for the end of July 2026, which is the end of the authorisation process for becoming a candidate to host matches at the 2032 European Championship.”

Roma have been planning to build a new stadium for several years. CEO Lorenzo Vitali confirmed last year that ‘the dream is close to becoming a reality’.
