David Ortiz Trolls Yankees After Embarrassing Playoff Loss To Blue Jays

Just a few days after ending the Boston Red Sox’s season, now the New York Yankees are the ones facing elimination.

The Yankees’ season is on the brink following back-to-back humiliating losses to kick off their ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays. New York got blown out at Rogers Centre over the weekend, getting outscored 23-8 by the AL East champions.

The Yankees’ pitching staff, which limited the Red Sox to just six runs during the three-game AL Wild Card Series, has been serving up batting practice to the Blue Jays. Toronto’s lineup has torched New York for 23 runs on 29 hits — including six doubles and eight home runs — while striking out just seven times.

With the Yankees needing three straight wins against the sizzling Blue Jays to advance to the ALCS, David Ortiz thinks their season is cooked.

“They can bring Jesus back, and they’re still going to Cancun. It’s over. It’s a wrap,” Ortiz said on FOX’s postgame show after New York’s 13-7 loss on Sunday.

The Boston legend continued to troll his former rivals, telling fellow studio analyst Derek Jeter, “The only chance the Yankees have is if you, [Mariano Rivera], Andy [Pettitte] and Alex Rodriguez come back and play.” New York has not won a World Series since those four retired.

After barely beating a diminished Red Sox team in the ALWC Series, Jeter’s old team has looked overmatched against a healthier, well-rested Toronto squad.

The Yankees will turn to three-time All-Star Carlos Rodon in Game 3 on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. Rodon’s coming off six innings of three-run ball against Boston in his most recent outing and has thrown seven straight quality starts, so he’ll try to cool off the Blue Jays’ red-hot bats.

Toronto will look to finish off the sweep behind Shane Bieber. The former AL Cy Young winner has also pitched well lately, allowing just five runs over his last three starts combined.
