Red Sox Announce Major Carlos Narvaez Injury News

The Boston Red Sox held their end-of-season press conference on Monday morning.

Among the flurry of topics discussed during the session was starting catcher Carlos Narvaez’s knee injury.

Narvaez played through a damaged meniscus for part of the second half of the season and Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said on Monday that the 26-year-old would have offseason surgery to address the issue.

“Carlos Narváez will have a procedure to address a meniscus tear in his knee,” Alex Speier of the Boston Globe posted on Bluesky.

Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic added that the surgery shouldn’t sideline Narvaez long and he’s “expected to have (a) full offseason.”

The backstop made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees last July but played in just six games during the 2024 season.

Narvaez was traded to Boston in December and had a big first half of the 2025 campaign, posting a .273/.347/.439 slash line before slumping to .187/.233/.387 following the All-Star break.

The Venezuelan finished the year with 15 home runs, 50 RBIs and a .241/.306/.419 triple slash across 446 plate appearances covering 118 games.
