Bills’ Sean McDermott Admires Drake Maye Before Week 5 Matchup

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has shown remarkable potential this season. Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who will face off against the young talent on Sunday, holds him in high regard.

“Very impressed,” McDermott said Wednesday, via Carlos A. Lopez. “There’s probably not much that he can’t do. He can throw it, he can run it, he can scramble. He’s off to a great start. I’m sure they feel good about him as an organization as well.”

McDermott has been keeping an eye on Maye from a distance throughout this year, but last season, he faced him head-to-head in two matchups. In Week 16, Maye started against Buffalo, racking up 261 passing yards and throwing two touchdown passes. The Patriots came up short, losing 24-21.

The 51-year-old head coach faced Maye for the second time in Week 18, when the young quarterback took the field for just one drive. Then the Patriots let backup quarterback Joe Milton step in.

McDermott isn’t the only person from the Bills organization who has high praise for Maye. Quarterback Josh Allen has admired Maye for some time now.

“I think Drake is super talented, he’s one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league,” Allen told Sports Illustrated’s Liam McKeone on June 17. “I’ve spent some time around him, and he’s got his head on his shoulders the right way. He just does things the right way. I think that he exemplifies football.”

Buffalo’s glowing remarks about Maye should spark excitement within New England’s organization, as it finally has a quarterback who concerns its rivals.
