Alex Cora Perfectly Describes Sports Fandom After Red Sox Win

0 14

The Boston Red Sox have made fans sweat this September, but they’re back on track near the finish line.

After losing some wiggle room in the playoff standings, Boston bounced back with two wins over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox regained the American League’s second wild-card spot but are just one game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros entering Sunday’s action.

Boston secured a much-needed 6-3 victory over the Rays on Saturday night with a three-run rally in the ninth. Following the dramatic win, via the Boston Herald’s Gabrielle Starr, manager Alex Cora encapsulated the life of a sports fan in one sentence.

“We’re gonna suffer, but it’s fun,” Cora said.

Regardless of the team, every sports fan has felt that way at one point.

A grueling 162-game MLB season will especially test someone’s resolve with inevitable ebbs and flows. The Red Sox have taken fans on a topsy-turvy roller coaster in 2025, and fans hope the ride will keep going in October.

Boston went into June with a losing record before shockingly trading franchise mainstay Rafael Devers. Yet the fun part started when the Red Sox took a 10-game winning streak into the All-Star break.

Those strong vibes continued throughout the summer before the Red Sox encountered an untimely rough patch. Boston had lost 10 of 15 games before picking up two monumental victories over the Rays.

It hasn’t been the smoothest journey, but the Red Sox remain in the driver’s seat to play postseason baseball. They’ll look to sweep Tampa Bay on Sunday night before finishing the regular season against the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers.
