United will be worried: 21yo midfielder has played only 62 minutes on loan
Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is finding life far from easy at West Bromwich Albion after a challenging start to the 2025–26 campaign.
Collyer completed a season-long loan switch to the Hawthorns in August, with the Championship side without an option to buy.
The midfielder joined Man United’s academy from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022.
Despite being fit and available, he has yet to start a single game for the Baggies.
He has made five substitute appearances totalling just 62 minutes.
His latest outing came in the 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, where he came on in the second half to provide control.
He was extremely tidy with the ball at his feet, completing all 25 of his passes.
He even managed to thread six passes into the final third from his deep-lying midfield role.
However, the youngster struggled in the physical battle, losing both ground duels he was involved in.
Collyer is highly rated at the club but the lack of European football this season meant a loan move was deemed the best way to guarantee him valuable minutes.
With Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte, and Kobbie Mainoo ahead of him in the pecking order, United head coach Ruben Amorim had little choice but to sanction the temporary switch.
With United lacking European fixtures this season, it was a sensible call to send him on loan.
However, it is a major surprise to see Collyer not being given a start at West Brom.
His 28-minute cameo against Middlesbrough shows that he has the skills to become a crucial part of the XI.
United fans will hope that Collyer will get the chances he deserves and develop his game in the Championship rather than wasting this crucial time on the bench.
