"Love it kid": Bruno praises £29m Man Utd star after 7 duels won vs Chelsea
Manchester United bagged their second victory of the Premier League season against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils were handed an early advantage with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez picking up a red card in the fifth minute.
It paved the way for a dominant first-half display. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro found the net before the latter was sent off.
Trevoh Chalobah reduced the deficit for the Blues in the second half after a free header from an accurate Reece James cross.
However, the Red Devils held on for a much-needed win to relieve some of the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim.
Patrick Dorgu provided the assist for the opening goal with a fine header into the path of Fernandes, who had a simple tap-in.
The Dane also won seven ground and aerial duels alongside four recoveries and four tackles. He had 64 touches with 26 passes.
Dorgu still needs to improve with his crossing into the box. There were multiple occasions where he failed to deliver the perfect ball.
Despite this, he is showing signs of improvement with every game and should become more consistent with an assured starting role.
After the game, Dorgu posted that the Red Devils have taken ‘one more step in the right direction’ on Instagram. Fernandes was quick to praise him.
He commented: ‘Love it kid’.
Dorgu signed for the Red Devils for an overall package of £29 million from Lecce last winter.
He had a mixed debut campaign with the club, but has been more consistent with his displays from pre-season. The onus is now on him to cement a starting role at left wing-back.
Diogo Dalot’s injury paved the way for Dorgu to reclaim his position. He won plenty of duels against Manchester City last weekend, but was unconvincing with his forward play.
The 20-year-old was far better against the Blues with several attacking runs. He was helped by Chelsea’s early red card, but provided a brilliant header for Fernandes to break the deadlock.
Hopefully, we will see more goal contributions from the left wing-back going forward.
