Alex Cora Praises Red Sox Fans After Walk-Off Win
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora was thrilled with the fans at Fenway Park after the team’s 5-4 walk-off win over the Athletics on Wednesday.
Boston trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Red Sox were able to rally and force extra innings. The Red Sox didn’t give up a run in the top of the 10th inning, and in the bottom half, they got the game-winning run as Nate Eaton beat the throw home on an infield hit by Nick Sogard.
Following the win, Cora praised the fans at Fenway Park for staying with the team and helping them come back for a much-needed win.
“This stadium today, they were in it,” Cora said. “(On Tuesday), it was kind of dead. We were a little bit, I don’t want to say flat, but it was very quiet. We didn’t do much (early) today. But the urgency was there from the get-go, and it was a fun night.”
Following the win, Boston is tied for the second Wild Card spot and is 2.5 games up on the Cleveland Guardians.
The Red Sox’s magic number is now down to eight after the walk-off win, as Boston is closing in on a return to the playoffs.
“Our plan is to play in the playoffs, you know? We’ll take all of the Ws we can, regardless of if they’re pretty or ugly,,” Cora said. “It really doesn’t matter,”
Boston hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2021 season, when the Red Sox made it to the ALCS.
The Red Sox look for a series win over the Athletics on Thursday at 1:35 p.m. ET.
