Under17s friendly - Queen's Park 3 Hearts 1
LEE MITCHELL’S Wee Spiders won the first of a double-header against Elite Level opposition when Hearts visited Lochinch on Tuesday evening.
The under-17s are riding high in the CAS Advanced Youth League but are without a fixture this weekend, so filled the void with two challenging friendly matches.
Hearts were first up with Kilmarnock to follow later this week.
A double from Logan Duffy added to an earlier own goal to give the Spiders a 3-1 lead at the interval, and they saw out the match to head into their Friday night fixture in confidence.
Coach Mitchell said: “I thought we were really good in the game, especially in the first half, and created lots of opportunities. We were really aggressive out of possession and were much more controlled in possession compared with our last game, which was really pleasing to see.
“A great move quite early in the game with a good cutback across goal resulted in Hearts scoring an OG but we had performed really positively up to that point. A penalty not long was scored by Logan Duffy and then another by Logan later in the first half saw us lead 3-1 at half time.
“We had more opportunities in the second half, which we could have been more clinical from, but really it has been pleasing to get players game time this week and a good competitive fixtures with elite level sides.
“However, the most pleasing part for me over the last couple weeks is seeing a number of 17s play up with the 19s squad, and that will continue this week with the 19s in action against St Mirren on Thursday.”
The next 17s fixture is scheduled for Friday night against Kilmarnock.
