Former NESN Reporter Returns To Fenway Park For Red Sox-Yankees Broadcast
The Boston Red Sox kick off a critical three-game series with the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on Friday night. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. ET and airs on Apple TV+.
Former NESN reporter Heidi Watney will be part of the broadcast crew as a reporter for Apple TV+’s “Friday Night Baseball.” She previously worked for NESN from 2008 to 2011 before moving on to Time Warner Cable Sportsnet in Los Angeles, then MLB Network and Apple TV+.
This is Watney’s fourth year with Apple TV+ after nine years with MLB Network. However, she still has a special place in her heart for the Red Sox, Boston and Fenway Park.
“Always love coming back to Beantown!” she wrote in a post on X promoting Friday night’s broadcast.
Watney, now 44 and married with two children, also shared her fond Boston memories with Boston.com’s Chad Finn.
“It’s like coming home,” Watney said. “I could not love this city more. I come back all the time to visit friends. I plead for Red Sox games every time we have them. It just makes me so happy to walk into Fenway and see familiar faces — the security guys, the clubbies are for the most part still there from my time — and hear ‘Sweet Caroline’ in the eighth inning. It brings back a flood of memories.”
She also enjoyed working with Don Orsillo (now with the San Diego Padres) and the late Jerry Remy, who passed away in 2021.
“The chemistry was just so special. There are crews that have it, but it’s still pretty rare,” Watney said.
Friday’s game is massively important for both the Red Sox and Yankees, who are separated by just half a game in the AL East standings. Lucas Giolito (10-3, 3.38 ERA) will be on the mound for Boston against Luis Gil (3-1, 3.31 ERA).
