Carlos Narvaez Reveals How Alex Bregman Helped Get Red Sox’s Offense On Track
With just a few weeks left in the 2025 regular season, the Boston Red Sox appear well on their way to locking up one of the American League’s wild card spots. For a long stretch of the year, though, it didn’t seem like the playoffs were in Boston’s future.
Early in June, the Red Sox were scuffling, with their record falling as low as 32-36. After trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants and promoting top prospect Roman Anthony, the Sox have been a completely different team, as they have an 81-66 record heading into a weekend series with the New York Yankees.
While the departure of Devers and the arrival of Anthony certainly helped, one guy that players continue to point at as being a leader within the clubhouse is Alex Bregman. According to Carlos Narvaez, Bregman may actually be the main reason Boston’s offense was able to get off the ground this year.
Bregman is known as a baseball savant. Not only does he focus on figuring out his best strategies at the plate, but he also works with his fellow hitters, and even the pitching staff, too. Narvaez recalled getting a call from Bregman at 1 a.m. one night in June, asking if he was down to talk shop.
“It was 1 a.m. when Carlos Narváez’s phone lit up. Alex Bregman was calling,” Tim Healey wrote for the Boston Globe. “Determined to help the team figure it out, he beckoned Narváez and Connor Wong, the catchers, for a chat — about pitching.
“‘Are you awake?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘Come to my room,’” Narváez recalled. “Bro, we talked till 2 or 3 a.m., talking about our pitchers. How can we get better? He is involved in everything.”
Bregman himself has enjoyed a resurgent season with the Red Sox, as he’s hitting .279 with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs. In fact, he’s played so well that he’s expected to opt out of his contract with Boston and attempt to earn an even bigger deal in free agency this upcoming offseason.
That’s a problem the team can deal with in the future, though. For now, Bregman is focused on helping ensure the Sox win as many games as possible, and it will be crucial for them to perform well in their upcoming set against the Yankees.
