Gibb: We're All One Big Hibs Family

0 14

Hibs Women defender Caley Gibb can't wait for the return leg against Inter Milan after putting an "absolute shift" in their UEFA Europa Cup Qualifier in Italy.

Gibb provided the assist for Eilidh Adams' second-half strike, but the Hibees would lose out 4-1 on the night as Inter finished with aplomb at every opportunity presented to them.

It was a great test against last season's Serie A runners-up, but Gibb remains assured that the girls can take the game to the Italian giants next week at Easter Road.

"I'm very proud of the girls. It's an absolute shift and a half to come out here after playing Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday, the past few weeks. Nobody wants that result but it's only half-time.

"We've got to go back to our ground now with all the fans and we're going to put in a performance for them and, at the end of the day, we're now just going to go out and play and see what we can do. We've scored here, we've had plenty of chances so we know we can do it. It's just about taking those chances.

"First half, I thought I was so far off it and I know I can do better but I came out in the second half and I just thought, do your thing, go play, go enjoy yourself," Gibb added, reflecting on the first leg battle.

"I've got another assist to add to my tally so far for the season. I'm proud in that aspect but I know I've got plenty more to come and just credit to Eilidh for being there at the right time and putting in the back of the net. She did the hard work."

The team were backed by a strong travelling support in Milan as the Hibees played in the first ever Europa Cup round of fixtures.

With such a buoyant support willing the team on through the hardest stages of the match, Gibb is excited by the prospect of a busy crowd turning out next week - with tickets priced at just £5 while U13s go free! - at Easter Road for the return leg.

"We couldn't ask for a better group of fans. We've got people that aren't family here but, together, we're all one big Hibs family and that's great.

"I've got my mum and dad here who have taken some amount of annual leave the past few weeks but it's just a credit to the support and the love that they've shown.

"We can't thank them enough and they're pushing us on in the hard bits of the game and the tired moments. We're just grateful for every single one of them.

"I think it can only get better [next week]. There's going to be a lot more of us. It's going to be even better.

"Hopefully, it'll be even louder and, you know, we'll take the game to Inter Milan and we're going to show them what playing at Easter Road is like and playing Hibs at their home. Hopefully it'll be a good night."
