Napoli and Roma attempted summer swoop for Manchester United golden boy Mainoo
Napoli and Roma were amongst a number of clubs that made an attempt to sign Manchester United midfielder Kobee Mainoo this summer, reports from the UK claim.
According to what has been reported by the Daily Mail, the Serie A duo joined the likes of Tottenham, Marseille, Everton and Aston Villa but were refuted after Ruben Amorim’s side refused to open up to a potential loan deal.
Mainoo eventually stayed with United but his future is under question after Amorim has struggled to fit the talented Englishman into his system regularly.
Like Mainoo, Napoli and Roma start to shop in the Premier League
Both Napoli and Roma have started to increase the number of players they are bringing in from the Premier League in recent years.
This summer, the Giallorossi completed the signing of Evan Ferguson and Leon Bailey on loan with buy option/obligation and Kostas Tsimikas on a straight loan, all from England’s top flight.
Meanwhile, Napoli signed Kevin De Bruyne this summer on a free transfer from Manchester City and Rasmus Hojlund on loan from United. This is in addition to Romelu Lukaku, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, who all left England behind for Italy last summer.
