Man Utd are "paying everything" for wonderkid's loan at 23rd-placed club
Manchester United are paying everything for wonderkid Harry Amass’ loan spell at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, according to journalist Joe Crann.
The 18-year-old had a good breakthrough under manager Ruben Amorim last term. He made a handful of starts in the Premier League as the club prioritised Europa League glory.
Amass did not feature for United at the start of this season and was loaned out to Wednesday before the deadline. It is now revealed that the club are covering all costs for the deal.
The Red Devils are ‘paying everything’ from wages to accommodation costs, and through to any bonuses that the teenager will pick up between now and the turn of the year.
Amass was Wednesday’s only outfield signing of the transfer window due to owner Dejphon Chansiri’s inability to provide financial assurances to the English Football League.
United have taken a gamble by sending Amass to Wednesday
Despite the financial instability, Wednesday finished 12th in the standings last season. Manager Danny Rohr left after a raft of departures, and Henrik Pedersen has since been in charge.
The Dane worked as the assistant manager before his promotion. It has been reported that United wanted Amass to spend time under the watchful eye of the 47-year-old tactician.
It remains to be seen whether the move proves worthwhile for his development. Wednesday have had the worst possible start, and they are languishing 23rd with one point from four games.
Ideally, United should have sent Amass to a promotion-chasing outfit. At Wednesday, Amass could face a genuine relegation battle and may need to be more defensively organised.
Amass will get minutes from the left wing-back role in a 3-4-1-2 set-up, but only time will tell whether the move will be fruitful. If it does not work out, he could be recalled in January.
