Man Utd now eyeing deal for 24yo Brentford star after Mbeumo
Manchester United are targeting a move for Brentford captain Nathan Collins.
The Red Devils have had a productive summer transfer window with four signings thus far.
They have added quality to the squad with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Diego Leon.
The club are known to be eyeing a defensive midfielder, but the Daily Mail report that a defender could be pursued as well.
The Red Devils and Tottenham Hotspur have now joined Liverpool in the pursuit of Collins, who was recently handed the captain’s armband at Brentford.
The Bees are said to be very reluctant to part ways with the 24-year-old following a string of high-profile departures this summer.
Brentford have secured plenty of incoming funds through the exits of Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken, among others.
They are also poised to sell Yoane Wissa, who is a top target for Newcastle United.
United speculation could be agent-driven
The Red Devils parted ways with two central defenders in Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans after the expiry of their contracts on June 30.
The club have not bolstered the department with a recruit, considering they have sufficient depth and quality despite the double departure.
Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw can all play in the back three.
Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are injured at the moment, but the pair are expected to return to full training in the coming days.
With seven senior options, there does not appear to be a need for another recruit unless manager Ruben Amorim has made a personal request.
Collins has developed into a quality centre-back during his time at Brentford, and in our view, his agent could be seeking a big-club move for him.
Liverpool obviously need more solutions. The lack of progress in talks for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi could turn their attention to Collins instead.
United and Spurs have now been credited with an interest. It could be a tactic from his representative to speed up negotiations with Arne Slot’s side.
Still, we don’t see the Bees sanctioning his sale after their selling spree this summer.
