Club now agree to cover 100% salary for €50m Man Utd star - report

0 20

AC Milan have pledged to cover the wages of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund ahead of his potential transfer to the club, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 7).

The Denmark international has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Red Devils, and he was an unused substitute during the 1-1 friendly draw versus Fiorentina last weekend.

Hojlund’s future is away from Old Trafford, and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that negotiations are ongoing between United and Milan to secure a suitable agreement for his departure.

The Red Devils reportedly value the striker at €50 million, but Milan are aiming to sign him for less. They are preparing a €5m loan bid with an option to buy for less than €40m.

The Rossoneri have already pledged to fully cover Hojlund’s net salary of €4m per year, but the striker still needs guarantee of a permanent transfer during the summer of 2026.

Milan may have to negotiate a conditional obligation to buy or a buy clause which they can afford next year. The club’s hierarchy want Hojlund next week ahead of the Serie A opener versus Cremonese.

Milan pushing to sign Hojlund

The Dane was initially reluctant to leave the Red Devils and mentioned in multiple interviews that he would prefer to stay and fight for his place next season.

However, it appears he has changed his stance over the past few days. Hojlund’s father has personally communicated to Milan to confirm the striker’s desire to join them.

The Rossoneri are also prepared to meet his current wages, and the onus is now on them finding a suitable agreement with the Red Devils for the player’s transfer.

In our view, it could be a matter of time before a deal is finalised. Milan don’t have the financial firepower to pay the entire fee upfront, and an initial loan move appears on the cards.

A permanent transfer should be sorted at the end of the campaign as Hojlund may only commit to the San Siro giants if they provide him assurances of a long-term stay.

Hojlund may not want to return to Old Trafford next year to pursue a new challenge. Milan could speed up talks with United after agreeing on personal terms with Hojlund.
