Christian Pulisic reportedly set to lose another AC Milan star after $46M Premier League agreement

Christian Pulisic is reportedly set to lose another star teammate as AC Milan agree on a $46 million fee with a Premier League team.

Christian Pulisic has emerged as one of AC Milan’s key figures heading into the 2025-26 season, with new head coach Massimiliano Allegri leading a major squad overhaul. Expectations are high, but the USMNT star has reportedly been dealt a setback as one of the Rossoneri’s starters closes in on a $46 million move to the Premier League.

Following the sales of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City and Theo Hernandez to Al Hilal, Milan reinvested in the squad with the arrivals of Luka Modric, Ardon Jashari, Samuele Ricci, and Pervis Estupiñán, signaling strong backing for Allegri’s project. However, another crucial piece now appears set to leave San Siro to continue his career in England’s top flight.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign Malick Thiaw from Milan. The starting center back was eager to make the switch to the Premier League, prompting Milan to give verbal approval for a €40 million (around $46M) deal, including add-ons.

Thiaw featured in Milan’s friendly against Leeds United on Saturday in Dublin, Ireland. Allegri fielded a mixed lineup of starters and reserves, pairing Strahinja Pavlović with Matteo Gabbia in central defense. Thiaw came on in the 83rd minute of the 1-1 draw.

With both clubs and the player in agreement, only medical tests remain before the German international is unveiled as a Magpie. Thiaw is expected to travel with the Milan squad to London before heading to the North East for his medical and contract signing in the coming days, marking yet another key departure for Pulisic’s side.

Milan short on defensive options

Thiaw’s exit would be a significant blow for Milan, not only because he has been a fixture in the backline in recent seasons, but also due to the lack of depth in central defense. With Pierre Kalulu also on the move, Allegri currently has only Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia, and Strahinja Pavlovic available at center back.

Davide Bartesaghi could be an alternative, but the 19-year-old is a natural left-back, making his suitability in the middle uncertain. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, sporting director Igli Tare has identified Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo as the top target, but his €30 million valuation presents a major hurdle. One thing is certain—Milan must reinforce their defense if they want to avoid problems during the 2025-26 campaign.
