Kristian Campbell’s Bat Remains Scorching Hot With WooSox
When the Boston Red Sox optioned 23-year-old Kristian Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on June 20, the scuffling rookie found himself mired in a prolonged slump that saw him bat only .154 (20-for-130) from late-April onward after winning American League Rookie of the Month honors for his hot start during the opening weeks of the 2025 season.
The demotion to Worcester was meant to help the talented youngster reset at the plate and ease the burdens and pressures that came along with signing an eight-year $60 million contract extension only weeks after beginning his Major League Baseball career.
Campbell’s return to Triple-A was anything but smooth. With his hitting approach out of sync, combined with learning to play a new position, his struggles at the plate continued until the middle of July, when he began to make contact and drive the ball with more authority.
Currently batting .278 with four home runs and 17 RBIs, Campbell has been scorching hot at the plate recently. And following an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning on Wednesday, Campbell finds himself in the middle of a 15-game hitting streak, which is now the second longest in WooSox team history.
With Campbell’s bat returning to form, it will be interesting to see if the Red Sox decide to recall him to the big league roster later this season. With playing time likely to be limited with Boston, it appears more likely the team would rather have him receive regular playing time with Worcester instead of letting him languish on the bench in the Major Leagues.
But with rosters around the league expanding to 28 players on September 1, it’s possible Campbell could be back with the Red Sox during the final five weeks of the regular season.
