An emotional Heung-min Son confirmed that he would be leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer after spending a decade at the club.

Son joined aged 23 and is set to depart aged 33, and he would be doing so on a high, after winning his first piece of silverware at N17 last campaign, where he lifted the Europa League trophy.

Tottenham’s Heung-min Son has the best xG in world football

With the entire football world paying tribute to the Tottenham legend, the xG Philosophy account took to X to drop a rather impressive statistic about Heung-min Son.

On their Twitter account, they revealed that Heung-min Son has been the most clinical finisher in world football since 2014, based on expected goals data.

It is believed that Son has outperformed his xG by +36% over that period, which places him ahead of several footballing greats in that time frame, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and even former teammate Harry Kane.

Spurs legend Son leaves behind a prolific legacy

Son’s finishing ability is one trait that stands out, as the wide forward managed to notch 173 goals in 454 appearances, placing him fifth on Tottenham’s all-time top scorers list.

The Korean’s goalscoring prowess also saw him clinch the Premier League Golden Boot back in the 2021-22 season, while he also scooped the Puskas Award back in 2020.

Since his departure became public knowledge, several players have paid tribute to Son, with James Maddison sending an emotional message to the Tottenham captain, while Kevin Wimmer stated that no one will ever forget Son.
