Raith Rovers v Queen’s Park – There’s Nothing Else Like It

0 47

LEAGUE football returns this weekend as Queen’s Park take on Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy.

Saturday’s clash is the first of 36 games in the William Hill Championship for Sean Crighton’s Spiders – 36 games that will make or break the season after what feels like 36 weeks of waiting.

In actual fact it’s only 91 days (or 13 weeks) since Queen’s last played in Scotland’s second tier – co-incidentally against Barry Robson’s side at Hampden on May 2.

But after much change over the close season on the pitch and off it, at Hampden and The city Stadium, the regular season is back and, as the SPFL says in their preview promotional materials… there’s nothing else like it.

Spiders captain Euan Murray

The match, at Stark’s Park, will be a quick-fire return for Queen’s Park captain Euan Murray and Aidan Connolly, who both left Raith Rovers to join the Spiders this summer.

Louis Longridge is another Spiders star with previous in Fife.

Looking ahead

Sean Crighton’s head coach previews are sponsored by Glasgow Clyde College.

The head coach, and assistant Jim Duffy, are sponsored by PTS Clean this season.

Queen’s Park pre-match player preview interviews are sponsored by .

Matty Shiels’ away and third kit is still available for sponsorship –  for more details.

The Season so far...

After four pre-season friendlies and the same number of Premier Sport Cup group games, the league kicks off for Queen’s Park as it does for clubs across Scotland.

Since taking over as head coach in May, Sean Crighton’s record reads two wins and two defeats in competitive games – but the Spiders’ boss is fairly pleased with how his charges have performed.

The final ten minutes against The Spartans cost Queen’s Park progress in the league cup competition, but that aside even in defeat to Falkirk, there have been positive signals for southside supporters and staff.

Josh Fowler has grabbed the headlines with five competitive goals including the winner against Cove last weekend, however the role of his strike partner Michael Ruth against Paul Hartley’s side has not gone unnoticed.

Indeed speaking in the video interview above, Sean Crighton has been pleased with all six of his summer recruits – including the trio from old club Dumbarton who have defied their early doubters with strong performances in the black and white colours.

Josh Fowler has scored five in four

A test as stern as Premiership new-boys Falkirk awaits in Fife and after a promising display against the Bairns, similr would be more than welcome at Stark’s Park after the joy of the last visit there.
