Man Utd teenage sensation has blown Amorim & co away in training this wk, yet to be assigned squad no.
Manchester United summer signing Diego Leon has impressed head coach Ruben Amorim and his staff in training this week, not looking out of place despite his age and arriving from Paraguay, according to The Athletic.
The 18-year-old left-back joined the Red Devils from Cerro Porteno earlier this month and promised to ‘kill it in pre-season’ as he eyes a place in the first-team.
While Leon was not immediately assigned a squad number because Man United staff wanted to see how he fared and where his status should be pitched, he has caught their eye and could force his way into the first-team if he keeps impressing.
The Red Devils are off to Stockholm this weekend and will face Leeds United on Saturday, and he has a chance to earn a spot on the plane when they travel to the United States afterwards for their pre-season tour for games against West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton.
Leon needs to keep giving his best in the coming days if he wants to be on the bench when Man United host Arsenal on August 17 for the first game of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, and he has shown the signs so far.
He played 33 first-team games for the Paraguayan top-flight club, weighing in with four goals, but he has the likes of Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw and Harry Amass currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
Nevertheless, Leon appears motivated and determined to prove himself, and it will be intriguing to see whether he can do enough to be a part of the senior team next season.
He still has plenty of time going forward to establish himself as a top Premier League star, and he may need to settle for a place in the under-21s for now and work his way up the rungs.
