Savona latest Italy defender targeted by Newcastle United
Newcastle United are reportedly planning a bid for Juventus defender Nicolò Savona, who had previously been linked with Manchester City, and still hoping for Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini.
The Premier League side already have Sandro Tonali and are looking towards more Italy internationals to bolster their squad this summer, specifically in defence.
According to Sky Sports UK, they are planning a fresh proposal for Juventus right-back Savona.
Savona on Newcastle United radar
The 22-year-old plays primarily on the right, but can also be used in central defence when needed.
A product of the Juventus youth academy, Savona is currently out of action until mid-September with an ankle injury that he sustained during the FIFA Club World Cup.
He had previously been linked with the Premier League for Manchester City as an alternative to his Juve teammate Andrea Cambiaso.
However, Savona only recently signed a new contract with the Bianconeri to June 2023.
Meanwhile, the same source confirms Newcastle United have also not lost hope of getting Atalanta centre-back Scalvini, although here there is significant competition from Napoli and Milan.
Atalanta are also in no real rush to let the homegrown defender leave, putting him in their advertising campaign to launch the new kit today.
