Nottingham Forest keen on former Tottenham midfielder amid Morgan Gibbs-White standoff

0 1

As Nottingham Forest continue to work hard to stop Morgan Gibbs-White from joining Tottenham Hotspur, the Midlands club have now made advances to bring a former Spurs midfielder back to the Premier League.

Forest are standing their ground and continuing to insist that Gibbs-White will not leave despite Tottenham activating the midfielder’s £60m release clause.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is prepared to take extreme measures to stop Gibbs-White joining Spurs, as he is thought to be furious that the attacking midfielder’s confidential clause was leaked to the North London side.

In the meantime, it has now emerged that the Tricky Trees are now plotting a move to take a former Spurs man to the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest are plotting a move for Gedson Fernandes

It has now been revealed by journalist Matteo Moretto that Forest have made an approach to sign Tottenham Hotspur flop Gedson Fernandes.

Fernandes made an 18-month loan move to Tottenham from Benfica in January of 2020, being brought to the club by Jose Mourinho.

However, the midfielder’s spell in North London was cut short in January of 2021 after he failed to make a single appearance for the Lilywhites during the first half of that season.

The 26-year-old joined Besiktas in the summer of 2022 and has since developed into a fine all-around midfielder, emerging as one of the most consistent performers for the Istanbul giants.

If Moretto’s latest update is to be believed, we might see Fernandes link up with his compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo in the Midlands this summer.

Spurs should take heart from Nottingham Forest’s transfer moves

Despite Forest insisting that Gibbs-White will not be leaving, their actions in the transfer market seem to suggest otherwise.

Forest have been credited with an interest in City attacking midfielder James McAtte, while we have also heard over recent days that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are plotting a move for Botafogo number ten Thiago Almada.

Some sources have also backed Forest to make an approach for Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss. The club’s pursuit of these midfielders, in addition to their latest approach for Fernandes, suggests that they are expecting to fill a Gibbs-White shaped hole.
