Newcastle & Brighton are surprise candidates to sign 25yo United star, Red Devils want £50m - report
Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion have emerged as surprise candidates to sign Manchester United winger Antony this summer, according to UOL.
The Red Devils have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window thus far.
They made a quick statement with the purchase of Matheus Cunha, but have yet to confirm another high-profile signing. Talks have stalled for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Meanwhile, Antony’s future has been a regular topic of discussion in recent days, and UOL claim that there are five clubs interested in signing the Brazil international.
Real Betis are obviously exploring a permanent deal after his good loan stint, but Bundesliga duo RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are also mentioned as contenders.
Newcastle and Brighton are among Premier League clubs that have done ‘some research’ on the winger. United internally value the 25-year-old at around £50 million.
Man Utd must not offload Antony on the cheap
The former Ajax star has had a tough career with United, contributing just 12 goals and five assists from 96 outings. However, he was way better during his time at Betis.
Antony managed 14 goal contributions from 26 appearances on loan and helped them qualify for the Conference League final, where they eventually lost to Chelsea.
The winger’s stock has risen after his temporary stint in La Liga. United are right to value him at £50m, considering the recent price tags for Premier League attackers.
Noni Madueke and Anthony Elanga have joined Arsenal and Newcastle for £52m respectively. Their statistics are pretty similar to Antony’s throughout the 2024/25 season.
It remains to be seen whether the Magpies follow up on their interest after purchasing Elanga.
Brighton could be an option for Antony if he is up for the challenge. United are keen on landing Seagulls left wing-back Pervis Estupinan, who could be available for £26m.
United could sell Antony in a player-plus-cash deal with Estupinan acting as a makeweight.
