Nottingham Forest’s true motive behind Morgan Gibbs-White noise is good news for Tottenham

0 31

Nottingham Forest do not believe that they will be able to stop Morgan Gibbs-White from joining Tottenham but there is a clear reason behind their complaint to the Premier League.

Gibbs-White’s move to Tottenham was expected to be completed on Friday after Spurs triggered the midfielder’s £60m release clause.

However, since then, the deal has ground to a halt as Forest complained to the Premier League that Spurs had illegally approached Gibbs-White without their permission.

The Midlands club are now thought to be considering legal action, but Tottenham are confident that they will be able to complete a deal for Gibbs-White.

Forest do not expect to stop Morgan Gibbs-White to Tottenham

It has been claimed by several sources that even Forest do not expect to be able to stop Gibbs-White from joining Tottenham.

A new report in The Athletic has now shed light on why the Midlands club have decided to escalate the issue despite being resigned to losing the midfielder.

The outlet claims that Forest are not happy that Gibbs-White’s confidential release clause was leaked and, by threatening legal action, they only expect to delay the deal temporarily rather than stop it altogether.

They do not want to be seen as allowing their most influential player to leave without a fight, especially after they had sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United for £52m.

The steps the City Ground hierarchy are taking are thus likely intended to show that they fought and did what they could to prevent the Gibbs-White to Spurs transfer.

Nottingham Forest are playing to their fan base

Forest fans were raging when it emerged that Morgan Gibbs-White was on his way to Tottenham, particularly given how the deal happened out of nowhere.

This is thus an attempt by their owners to save face and prove to their supporters that they did what they could to stop the deal.

It has also been revealed that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is fuming with how Spurs got the deal done, which raises the possibility that this complaint could be down to his bruised ego.
