Man Utd star out for 8 wks, a doubt for start of new season after hamstring injury, out of pre-season

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been ruled out of the pre-season tour of the Red Devils due to a hamstring injury and is a doubt for the start of 2025-26, according to The Telegraph.

The Cameroon international picked up the knock this week after Man United players returned for pre-season preparations, and there are fears he could miss around six to eight weeks of action.

The Red Devils could now be forced to look into the transfer market for a new goalie or stick with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton going forward.

Man United begin the next Premier League campaign on August 17 against Arsenal, and it remains to be seen whether Onana will be match-fit and ready for action.

They have been linked with some goalkeepers in recent months due to some error-strewn performances from the 29-year-old, and they now have to decide whether they will firm up interest in any of their targets following his injury.

The Red Devils face Leeds United in Sweden on July 19 (next Saturday) before travelling to the United States for their pre-season tour, with games against West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton lined up.

They return to England for a friendly game against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9 before the new season kicks off, and they will be hoping Onana is available by then.

Man United are looking to hit the ground running next season after a woeful campaign which saw them finish 15th in the 2024-25 Premier League table, and having to make plans for a new goalie at the beginning of pre-season could disrupt things.

They have signed Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon so far this term and are hoping to further bolster their squad with more outfield additions, but the latest development means they could now make signing a new goalie a priority.
