Fabrizio Romano provides comforting Morgan Gibbs-White update for Tottenham fans
Fabrizio Romano has shared what the sentiment at Tottenham Hotspur is about the Morgan Gibbs-White deal after Nottingham Forest accused them of illegally approaching the player. Spurs’ current stance should give fans a little hope.
News first broke on Thursday that Spurs had triggered a £60m release clause in Gibbs-White’s contract and it was even alleged that the midfielder was set to have his medical at Hotspur Way on Friday.
However, yesterday, Nottingham Forest complained to the Premier League that Tottenham had illegally approached Gibbs-White without their permission.
Over the past 24 hours, several outlets have claimed that Gibbs-White’s proposed move to Spurs is still on course to go through despite Forest’s steps to delay it and pursue legal action.
How Tottenham feel about their chances of completing Morgan Gibbs-White deal
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the Midlands club believe that Tottenham Hotspur were not authorised to speak to the England international, and they feel that the North London club did not go about meeting the release clause in a legitimate way.
However, the journalist added that Spurs remain insistent that they didn’t do anything wrong and they are still ‘confident’ of getting the deal done.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Nottingham Forest have started working on legal action against Tottenham for Morgan Gibbs-White. They believe that the way they used to proceed with the release clause was not the correct way, that they were not authorised to speak to the player.
“They were not happy at all at Nottingham Forest. They spoke to the Premier League about that. Now, the Premier League will investigate into this story.
“But Tottenham maintain their position. They are convinced about their behaviour. They want to proceed with the deal, they want to sign the player. Nottingham Forest are prepared to fight. So, let’s see what’s going to happen there.
“But, for sure, the Gibbs-White deal now has an issue to be solved between the two clubs. That’s going to be one to watch in the coming days and hours, with Tottenham still hopeful and confident to get the player.”
Nottingham Forest fans are fuming at potential Gibbs-White sale
Nottingham Forest fans were raging on social media when it emerged that Morgan Gibbs-White was on his way to Tottenham, with many feeling that the 25-year-old is irreplaceable.
Their anger came from the fact that the club had already sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United this summer.
Some might suspect that Forest’s move to threaten legal action against Spurs could be to appease their fans and show that they did not let the former Wolves man leave without a fight.
