Five Man United youngsters looking to impress Ruben Amorim this pre-season

0 0

Manchester United began pre-season preparation on Monday with several youngsters involved.

Read on as we look at five starlets aiming to impress manager Ruben Amorim during this pre-season.

Chido Obi

Obi debuted last season in the Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in February, becoming United’s third youngest debutant in the competition’s history.

He featured in six subsequent league games but could not score. However, he impressed in the post-season tour, netting twice in the 3-1 win over the Hong Kong national team.

The Danish starlet hopes to impress Amorim and earn more playing time next season.

Diego Leon

Given the number of options Amorim has at left wing-back, the Paraguayan youngster faces stiff competition to break into the first team.

He has vowed to prove himself to avoid going out on loan, highlighting his determination to impress.

Leon quickly made an impression on Amorim yesterday, showing a ‘great intensity’ to ‘earn a big beam’ from the Portuguese tactician.

Harry Amass

Winner of United’s Young Player of the Year award last season, Amass made his senior debut in the 3-0 victory over Leicester City in March, becoming the club’s 253rd academy graduate.

He played more minutes than any other teenager for United last season, underscoring Amorim’s trust in him.

However, Amass needs to improve to move ahead of Patrick Dorgu in the pecking order – this pre-season offers him the opportunity to do that.

Tyler Fredricson

Fredricson, United’s current Reserve-Team Player of the Year award holder and 254th academy graduate, also debuted last term.

However, he risks getting few opportunities with the first team next season given the several centre-back options Amorim has and the lack of European football.

He must show that he is ready for more first-team action during this pre-season.

Toby Collyer

The 21-year-old midfielder has more experience than any other player on this list.

Amorim appears to rate Collyer highly, with 10 of his 13 senior appearances coming under the Portuguese.

However, he could have little gametime next season, with Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte being Amorim’s main options for the two central midfield roles.

Collyer must use this opportunity to impress and get more minutes next term.
