Report: Stones miss the 101

Maidstone United’s second pre-season game of the season ended in a narrow defeat at home to Chatham Town.

Neither side created much in either half. With the three minutes gone, Jephte Tanga did well to intercept the ball close to the edge of the area and he passed to Riley Court who dragged his shot wide of the left post.

However, Chatham scored what turned out to be the winner on 15 minutes. Lenny Holden saved the first shot but it fell straight into the path of Kian Moynes who fired in from close range.

In first half stoppage time, Jamie Yila got his head to a cross but his header went straight to Henry Molyneux in the Chats goal.

Maidstone completely changed their side at the break fielding ten trialists and TJ Bramble. The Stones ended up playing the vast majority of the second half with ten men after one of the trialists appeared to suffer an ankle injury early on.

The trialist wearing the blank shirt came the closest to equalising for the Stones. With 62 minutes gone, he hit a thumping shot from the edge of the area only for Molyneux to make a fine save and push the ball behind for a corner.
