Seagulls beaten in opening friendly

0 0

THE Seagulls were beaten 1-0 by Stockport Town in their opening pre-season friendly at the Blue Turtle Arena.

In a goalless first half the Bay, fielding a mixture of new signings and regulars from last season, went close from a free kick but Stockport had plenty of possession and Toby Green shot narrowly over the bar from a free kick.

Colwyn Bay made wholesale changes in the second half and Dan Atkins headed a chance just wide before Stockport got the only goal of the game through Terry Benson-Brewer after a goalmouth scramble following a good break by Rhys Ferguson.

The Bay battled hard for an equaliser with Sol Forde going close and Lloyd Marsh-Hughes hitting a post, but the visitors held on to take the win.

Colwyn Bay’s next match is against Marine at the Blue Turtle Arena next Saturday (July 12th, 2pm kick off)

Manager Mike Wilde said after the game:

“Obviously the biggest objective of pre-season is 45 minutes through all of our players – they got that today.

“It’s good to get back on to the grass and start putting and implementing some of the principles in a game situation.

“I thought overall it was a really good exercise.”
