Former Red Sox Top Prospect Selected For All-Star Futures Game
The 2025 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take place on July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta, and it remains to be seen if the Boston Red Sox will have a position player representing the team after third baseman Alex Bregman came up short in Phase 2 voting earlier this week.
While Garrett Crochet and Aroldis Chapman remain strong possibilities to be selected to the American League All-Star team’s pitching staff when the full roster is announced, the Red Sox organization will send top outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia to play in the All-Star Futures Game.
Joining Garcia in the outfield for the AL Futures team is Braden Montgomery, whom the Red Sox drafted as the 12th overall pick in the MLB draft last summer. Montgomery was traded along with Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman González to the Chicago White Sox in the deal that brought Crochet to Boston in December.
The 22-year-old has excelled at two minor league stops in the White Sox’s farm system this season and is batting .268 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI in 269 at-bats. Currently assigned to High-A Winston-Salem, Montgomery could finish his season at Double-A if he continues to produce at the plate.
That being said, Chicago wasted little time promoting the three other players acquired in the Crochet deal to the big leagues this season. Meidroth and Teel earned promotions earlier in the season, and González recently made two relief appearances before being optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on June 29.
