NHL Rumors: Brad Marchand Re-Signs With Panthers On Lucrative Contract

Brad Marchand will return to the place he finished, not the place he started.

Marchand, who was a pending unrestricted free agent, agreed to remain with the Florida Panthers on a six-year contract , as first reported by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on Monday evening. Friedman reported the total equates to “just under $32 million,” a number which aligns with the $5.25 million average value ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reported.

The signing isn’t yet official with NHL free agency set to drop the puck at noon ET on Tuesday.

The Boston Bruins traded Marchand in March ahead of the NHL trade deadline. The 37-year-old carved out an impactful role in Florida and ultimately helped the Panthers win the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive campaign. It marked the second Stanley Cup of Marchand’s career.

Marchand recorded four points in 10 regular-season games with the Panthers before he scored 20 points with 10 goals in 23 playoff games.

The Black and Gold reportedly were interested about a potential reunion with Marchand, but ultimately the veteran remained with a team fully capable of pursuing another Cup — and cashed in at the same time.
