NBA Free Agency Rumors: This Team ‘Leading Candidate’ For Al Horford
Smoke continues to build linking Al Horford to the Golden State Warriors.
Horford is gaining interest from multiple teams, including the Boston Celtics, but ultimately the Warriors are viewed as the “leading candidate” to sign the veteran big man, according to The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach.
Himmelsbach reported the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers also are showing interest in Horford. The insight is nearly identical to the reporting of Hoops Hype’s Michael Sotto, who reported those teams as well as the Denver Nuggets are showing interest.
NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer previously reported Horford is a “top target” for Golden State and The Athletic’s Anthony Slater said he’s the Warriors’ “preferred target.”
The 39-year-old Horford has been an invaluable member of the Celtics during his seven seasons with the organization, including the last four when Horford and company went to back-to-back NBA Finals and won a title in 2023-24.
Horford averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 43.3% from the field in 27-plus minute per game. He was equally as impactful on the defensive end with his ability to guard multiple positions.
If Horford wants to chase another ring, however, the Jayson Tatum-less Celtics might not be the best team to do it with in 2025-26.
