Bruins Re-Sign Key RFA To Long-Term Deal, Add Three Players

The Boston Bruins continued to build up their roster by re-signing four players between Sunday night and Monday.

Boston ended Sunday by locking down forward Morgan Geekie to a six-year, $33 million contract, the team announced.

Geekie had a breakout season with the Bruins during the 2024-25 season, totaling 33 goals and 57 points through 77 games. After the season, the 26-year-old was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

General manager Don Sweeney said before that he was confident the Bruins would get a deal done with Geekie. The forward also said at the end of the season that he wanted to stay in Boston long term.

“Any time you can stick around — like I said, I love it here. I’d love to be here as long as I can,” Geekie told reporters in April. “That’s definitely a goal, especially with a family now, being able to be in one spot would be awesome.”

Geekie has played in 333 career NHL games across six seasons with Boston, Seattle and Carolina, totaling 72 goals and 87 assists for 159 points.

On Monday, the Bruins also signed three more players before free agency kicks off on Tuesday.

Defenseman Henri Jokiharju was expected to become an unrestricted free agent but agreed to a three-year contract with an annual cap hit of $3 million.

Boston acquired Jokiharju in March in a trade that sent the team’s 2026 fourth-round draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres.

The Finland native had early success with the Bruins as a player on the blue line. In 18 games, he added four assists to the stat sheet and went plus-7, averaging 21:22 minutes of ice time.

Next, Boston agreed to a one-year contract with forward John Beecher with a cap hit of $900,000.

Beecher recorded three goals and eight assists through 78 regular-season games with the Bruins this season.

The 24-year-old was drafted by Boston in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft. He skated with the Bruins during the 2023-24 season before playing the whole year the following season.

To round out the signing, the Bruins re-signed goaltender Michael DiPietro on a two-year NHL contract with an annual cap hit of $812,500.

The 25-year-old has been an important piece to Boston’s AHL team. In 40 games with Providence, DiPietro had a .927 save percentage with an overall record of 26-8-5. He was awarded the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as the league’s most outstanding goaltender.

The four players add to the signings of forward Marat Khusnutdinov and defenseman Michael Callahan over the weekend.
