Arsenal seriously considering bid for Tottenham target after cooling on Rodrygo
Tottenham have been pushing hard for Eberechi Eze this summer, but there has now been a surprising twist in the saga between Spurs and Arsenal, one that offers a bit of hope to the Lilywhite faithful.
It has been twist after twist for Tottenham fans who have been keeping tabs on the club’s pursuit of Eberechi Eze.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Tottenham had been handed a major boost in their chase for the England international.
It was claimed that Spurs were open to triggering Eze’s release clause, and that the winger, on his part, was open to a move to north London.
In fact, it was even reported that Eze had become a strong alternative to both Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo, following Tottenham’s setbacks in those pursuits.
Arsenal enter race for Tottenham target Eberechi Eze
But the twist came when Spurs’ north London rivals entered the mix, with reports emerging that Arsenal had opened talks with Eze and that Eze’s head may have been turned by the Gunners’ interest.
FootballTransfers has now shed some light on Arsenal’s position. According to the publication, it is understood that the Gunners are seriously considering placing a bid for Eberechi Eze.
However, the outlet states that reports suggesting Eze has already agreed on personal terms with Arsenal are premature and inaccurate.
Sources close to the saga have also played down suggestions that Crystal Palace are now willing to accept the release clause in three separate instalments, casting doubt over how far along any potential deal actually is.
Nonetheless, internal discussions are said to be ongoing at Arsenal regarding a possible opening bid, and it is thought that Eze’s close relationship with Bukayo Saka could play a part in swaying the player’s final decision.
Spurs and Arsenal continue Eze battle amid Rodrygo delay
While Arsenal appear to be keen, FootballTransfers report that it remains too early to determine whether the Gunners will formally table a bid for the 26-year-old, with the club still assessing the full terms of a potential move.
Ironically, Tottenham have also been linked with Rodrygo in the last week. It seems the Lilywhites and the Gunners are shopping in similar attacking pools this summer.
Arsenal’s interest in Eze is believed to stem from the lack of clarity surrounding their top attacking target, Rodrygo, who is yet to make a decision on his future at Real Madrid.
Although Rodrygo remains Arsenal’s preferred option, the club are now unwilling to enter further discussions with the Brazilian’s representatives unless approached directly and given clear indications that a deal is truly possible.
That uncertainty has led Arsenal to widen their net, with both Eze and Morgan Rogers emerging as fallback options.
