Tottenham set fierce Cristian Romero stance amidst Atletico Madrid tactics

0 16

As Atletico Madrid attempt to turn up the pressure on Tottenham regarding Cristian Romero, the North London club are expected to remain resolute and not budge on their asking price for the centre-back.

The La Liga club are seemingly pulling out all the stops to land the Spurs vice-captain, with reports indicating that Diego Simeone is calling Romero every day regarding a summer transfer.

However, according to most sources, Tottenham are determined to hold on to Romero ahead of their return to the Champions League, with the Lilywhites not wanting to lose the Argentine’s leadership qualities at the start of their new era under Thomas Frank.

Atletico made a naked attempt to put pressure on Spurs last week when Simeone publicly admitted that he wants to bring Romero to the Metropolitano Stadium.

Tottenham will not drop Cristian Romero asking price

The Telegraph have now claimed that Spurs are determined that they will not be bullied into selling the centre-back to the La Liga club.

Even though the 27-year-old has just two years left on his contract, the Lilywhites will continue to demand over £60m for his services this summer.

The report says that Spurs are adamant that their valuation of Cristian Romero will not be impacted by the tactics deployed by Atletico.

The outlet claims they spoke to some sources who pointed out that attempting to put pressure publicly on Levy has never ended well for clubs who are looking to do business with Tottenham Hotspur.

The publication adds that there are doubts over whether Atletico could afford to pay upwards of £60m for the World Cup winner.

Thomas Frank faces a difficult situation with Romero

While Tottenham may reject Atletico’s advances, the worry for the Lilywhites will be that their new head coach gets stuck with an unhappy player.

Romero praised Ange Postecoglou immediately after Thomas Frank’s appointment, thus making his dissatisfaction with the club’s decision very clear.

This recent update from The Telegraph reveals that the centre-back will report for pre-season training in the second week of July, and the new Spurs boss faces a challenge in winning over Romero, which the Dane will be keen to do, given his influence in the Tottenham dressing room.
