'I am told': Fabrizio Romano breaks silence over the future of £47.3m Man United ace

Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer of exits as they look to offload several underperforming stars and slash their bloated wage bill.

Reports on Friday sent shockwaves, suggesting AS Monaco had set their sights on United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has clarified that the French outfit are not ‘working on a deal for Onana’.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “I am told that Monaco are not in active talks to sign Onana despite the reports coming out today.

“At the moment there is nothing really concrete in these reports. They have not made any bids or any approach.”

Onana moved to Old Trafford from Inter Milan for £47.3 million in July 2023.

The 29-year-old has made numerous high-profile errors over the last two years, raising uncertainty around his future at United.

While Onana is not deemed untouchable by the club, any suitor will have to table a decent offer to help United avoid recording a loss under the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

There is no doubt that United need a better shot-stopper than Onana in their ranks.

However, there are more pressing concerns elsewhere in their squad.

They have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers but are still eyeing another number 10 and a marquee striker.

A midfield reshuffle might also be on the cards if Casemiro secures a move away from Old Trafford.

Both Onana and his back-up Altay Bayindir have been guilty of costly errors that proved damaging in key fixtures.

Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez has been linked with a move to United but his reported £34 million valuation could be a deal-breaker.

Onana joined Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot on a recent fan engagement tour in India after the 2024–25 season. That appearance suggests the club still see him as part of their plans.
